What an amazing weekend we had at the Bula Festival in Aldershot in the UK!
Over 800 people stopped by to experience The Girmit Experience, and it was truly memorable. The energy, the smiles, and the curiosity from everyone made it such a rewarding time for all involved.
From the moment the doors opened, visitors were drawn into a unique world of history, culture, and connection. Families, friends, and festival-goers of all ages joined us to explore the rich heritage of the Girmitiyas—our ancestors whose journey of resilience and strength continues to inspire.
Interactive displays? Check. Captivating stories? Check. A meaningful and welcoming atmosphere? Double check! It was all about creating an experience that wasn’t just educational but also engaging, and judging by the feedback, it truly resonated.
“Walking through The Girmit Experience felt like stepping into the shoes of my ancestors—it brought tears to my eyes and pride to my heart,”
shared Mere, a local visitor.
Kids enjoyed the hands-on activities, while adults were fascinated by the stories of migration and survival. We even had moments where visitors shared their personal connections to the Girmit history—talk about powerful and moving!
“I came to learn about history, but I left feeling connected to something far bigger—a tapestry of resilience and hope,”
said John, a first-time attendee.
To top it all off, the festival atmosphere was vibrant. With the beats of Fijian music in the air and the aroma of delicious Fijian food wafting through the venue, it truly felt like a celebration of community and culture.
A heartfelt vinaka vakalevu (thank you very much) to everyone who joined us. If you missed out, don’t worry—there’s more to come. Until then, keep the Girmit spirit alive!
