In 2020 and 2021 we worked with teachers across the country to develop classroom-ready digital resources that support understanding of this difficult period of our history.

The resources are designed primarily for KS2 and KS3 students but could be adapted to work well in a youth or community group setting. They should also be useful to anybody with an interest in indentured labour or migration.

Use the Plug and Play resource and accompanying Push and Pull worksheet to introduce the topic. If your group would like to find out more you can combine the ideas in this introductory resource with activities from the cross-curricular Learning Toolkit (launching Spring 2021) as part of a larger project or scheme of work.

These resources are free for all and invite people to step inside the world of Girmit to learn for themselves about indentured labour and the people who were a part of it.
